If courage is being scared and doing it anyway, what are you not doing? What fears are shortening your life and impacting your business?
Recently I returned to the stage of a national competition I trained for every year of my youth. Except this time, 15 years later at the National Old Time Fiddlers Contest in Weiser, ID, I wasn't playing my fiddle to win. I was playing to break through my paralyzing fear of playing at all.
When was the last time you were courageous? What would your business, your job, your team or department look like if you and every part of it got a shot of courage in the arm?
Would you speak up more in meetings? Be up front with your clients? Push back when you are over-worked, take a breath? IMAGINE the freedom, the opportunities that will open up when you have moved past fear into action.
Try this:
* Make a list of your fears, from "the dark" to that little thing you've been holding back from your colleague.
* Pick the top three from your list, including the hardest one.
* Starting with the easiest, consider that the only thing between you and completion is the act itself. Do it.
* Next, ask yourself, "What am I resisting?" Same family as fear. If you're stuck for items on this list, ask your best friend, closest colleague or spouse. They will tell you. Treat this list the same way you treated the first.
Scary, I know. At Weiser, only my commitment to the breakthrough put one foot in front of the other till I stood on stage. But now, I have the breakthrough. I have my music back. I challenge you to get free too.
Warmly,
Regina
